Monthly Reading Challenge – September 2016!
    M

During most of August I have been taking part in the Pokémon Indigo league readathon and I’ve read 8 books in 3 weeks, which is amazing because since the beginning of June till the readathon started on August 14th, I’d only managed 11 of books. So in the last 3 weeks I’ve read a lot more than usual, and I couldn’t be happier.

I think the read-a-thon has made me more focused, and i’ve really knuckled down and not let myself get as distracted as I can be normally. I made a TBR which meant I wasn’t umming and ahhing about what to read and while there have been a few changes to the TBR, it was natural choices, not the days I end up normally choosing.

I found myself wishing that I could spend every month in a read-a-thon. So I thought, why not? I’ve set up some basic rules for myself and aim to read 8 books a month, so a little less than the 8 in 3 weeks, but it gives me some room if something comes up, or if I can read more, then fantastic. One of them will be my book club book, and at least one will come from books I’ve bought.
With the ReadThemAllThon there was a challenge to level up your pokémon which was part of the reason I felt so focused, so I’m still going to use the same points premise (1 point per 10 pages read, 20 points completion bonus and 20 points for review bonus), but instead of levelling up pokemon, if I reach 500 number of points I will reward myself with something yet to be decided.

Each Month will have a theme that I will try to get as many books to fit into, so here’s the next years worth of themes.

October – Autumn and Halloween (Cosy reads and Thrillers)
    November – Christmas

Here are the books I’ve Selected for September

    Sept16_Bookset1

Mystery Book – I don’t know what this month’s book club book will be, so for now, it’s a mystery.

Dark Water by Sara Bailey – Looking forward to this thriller it sounds really eerie!

When Helena returns to her childhood home in Orkney, she is forced to face memories that she has spent half a lifetime running from. Her best friend, the charismatic Anastasia, disappeared after a swimming incident. But what really happened that night by the wrecks?

We Were On A Break by Lindsey Kelk – Love Lindsey Kelk and love the ‘Ross and Rachel’ title.

Is it a break? Or is it a blip?

LIV and ADAM are in love. LIV and ADAM are supposed to be getting engaged. Until ADAM accidently suggests they take a break. And LIV starts thinking …

Friends, family and bystanders all have an opinion and one complication leads to another as Adam and Liv try to muddle through in this hilarious, heartwarming comedy.

Are they split up – or are they on a break? What exactly are they allowed to get away with? And, most importantly, what do Liv and Adam really want?

How to Find Your (First) Husband by Rosie Blake – This has been peeking from my book shelf for a while and I can’t wait to read to start it.

Isobel Graves moved to LA determined to be the Next Big Thing. Instead, she is dressed as a giant prawn handing out fliers promoting a fish market. Rather than attending glamorous parties and dating exciting men, her evenings consist of watching box sets with her sort-of boyfriend, whose idea of romance is a late-night drunken text.

Where did it all go wrong?

When Isobel catches sight of Andrew Parker, her childhood sweetheart, in the background of a TV news story she feels it’s a sign. If she’d stuck with Andrew everything would have turned out better. Now she just needs to find him…

    Sept16_Bookset3

The Assistants by Camille Perri – This one sounds interesting and fun.

Behind every successful man is a busy assistant and Tina’s boss is very successful. But Tina is tired of being overworked and underpaid. She’s bored of her damp flat and her mounting debts. Then a blip in the expenses system sends Tina a cheque.

She’s a good person. But she’s desperate. This isn’t stealing. It’s an administrative error. Right?

Silence Is Goldfish by Annabel Pitcher – Love YA and heard good thing about this authors previous books.

My name is Tess Turner – at least, that’s what I’ve always been told.

I have a voice but it isn’t mine. It used to say things so I’d fit in, to please my parents, to please my teachers. It used to tell the universe I was something I wasn’t. It lied.It never occurred to me that everyone else was lying too. But the words that really hurt weren’t the lies: it was six hundred and seventeen words of truth that turned my world upside down.

Words scare me, the lies and the truth, so I decided to stop using them.

I am Pluto. Silent. Inaccessible. Billions of miles away from everything I thought I knew.

Tessie-T has never really felt she fitted in and after what she read that night on her father’s blog she knows for certain that she never will. How she deals with her discovery makes an entirely riveting, heart-breaking story told through Tess’s eyes as she tries to find her place in the world.

    Sept16_Bookset4

Sunshine Over Wildflower Cottage by Milly Johnson – Milly Johnson is one of my must buy authors and I’ve put this book aside for too long!

Viv arrives at Wildflower Cottage, a tumbledown animal sanctuary, for the summer. Her job is to help with the admin, but the truth is she is here for something much closer to her heart…

Geraldine runs the Wildflower Cottage sanctuary. She escaped from her past to find happiness here, but now her place of refuge is about to come under threat. Can she keep her history at bay and her future safe?

Back home, Viv’s mother Stel thinks she might have found a man who will treat her right for once. Ian is kind, considerate, and clearly head over heels for her. That’s what she has wanted all along, isn’t it…?

The Truth About Ellen by Sarah Louise Smith – Loved ‘Amy and Zach’ by Sarah so sure I will enjoy this one!

When Ellen starts dating Tom, she neglects to mention that she’s a huge fan of the band he used to be in, because that just wouldn’t be cool, would it?

Ellen also keeps quiet about how she once spent an evening with Tom’s ex-best friend Jasper, her long-term celebrity crush. Tom doesn’t need to know about that, it’s all in the past.

That is until Tom and Jasper get back in touch… and the truth threatens to ruin everything.
