    Summary

The retreat at health-and-wellness resort Tranquillum House promises total transformation.

Nine stressed city dwellers are keen to drop their literal and mental baggage, and absorb the meditative ambience while enjoying their hot stone massages. Miles from anywhere, without cars or phones, they have no way to reach the outside world. Just time to think about themselves, and get to know each other.

Watching over them is the resort's director, a woman on a mission. But quite a different one from any the guests might have imagined. For behind the retreat's glamorous facade lies a dark agenda.

These nine perfect strangers have no idea what's about to hit them...

I’ve heard good things about Liane Moriarty’s books and was excited when I got accepted for this on Netgalley.

The synopsis leaves plenty of intrigue and I was compelled to read it almost non-stop, at least after the first few chapters which I found a little slow, but not off-puttingly so.

There are least 10 different viewpoints in this book, and while I am a fan of this style, I think it was too many. Other than Frances, I never really felt like I got to know the characters well enough to really care or sympathise with them.

I also thought that while I was compelled to finish, the last half of the book not as good as first, the build up of the retreats’ ways to almost a cult like gathering was fantastic, it was creepy in all the best ways, but in the ‘main event’ felt a little bit “eh” compared to the build up.

Despite my seeming negativity towards this book, I did enjoy aspects of this book and will certainly give other books by Liane Moriarty a try in the future.
